"Though she be but little, she is fierce"

- WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Sun-soaked days, lakeside dips, and thirst-quenching wines mark the coming of light. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate the summer solstice, the point in which the Northern Hemisphere receives the longest period of sunlight hours in the year.

In honour of this, we have curated a handful of new vintage releases that are perfect for sunning and sipping on a hot afternoon.

SHIFTING INTO THE LIGHT

An Interview with Winemaker, Amy Paynter

We have these two great growing regions —our Estate vineyards in Okanagan Falls where vines date back to 1994 and our Oliver vineyards. The afternoon wind keeps things cool, resulting in a more citrus-driven Chardonnay in Okanagan Falls. However, in Oliver, the warmer growing region provides more concentration and richness. When the fruit from both estates are blended together, it’s the best of the both worlds.

The snow is melting away, pruning is done, and things are starting to come back to life. With these shifts also come energy changes in the types of wines we are drinking. People’s moods are lifted and are drawn to wines that are reflective of that energy. For example, beautiful sunshine and cloudless blue skies call for some Pinot Gris.

Q. WHAT MAKES THE GROWING CONDITIONS IN THE OKANAGAN FALLS SO MAGICAL FOR CHARDONNAY?

Q. WHAT DOES THE SUMMER SOLSTICE AND THIS NEW GROWING SEASON MEAN FOR YOU?

Q. CAN YOU SHED SOME LIGHT ON HOW VINEYARD LOCATION AND SUN EXPOSURE AFFECT GRAPE GROWING?

Vines and plants live through sunlight. The glacial movements that carved out the Okanagan Valley also graced us with a magical array of growing slopes and aspects. Planting our vines on these different slopes, and according to the most ideal sunlight needs of each variety, has allows us to capture the essence of our valley, in a glass.

Q. WHAT’S YOUR HOT TAKE ON CHARDONNAY, AND HOW DOES LIQUIDITY DO IT DIFFERENTLY IN TERMS OF WINEMAKING?

Chardonnay is all about style, and discovering what yours is. Liquidity's Chardonnay vineyards naturally lean towards a lighter, brighter, more mineral driven style, and our Estate Chardonnay reflects that. The textural impacts of the oak barrels are present in the wine, but more like a subtle accessory, rather than a statement piece.
